ERP is defined as Enterprise Resource Plan (or Planning)- software that integrates departments or functions across one company into an unified computer system. It usually runs off a single database, structure which enables information sharing and communication between various departments of the company. ERP systems usually comprise modules that are specific to its function and are customly designed in a way that enables their interaction with the other modules of the system. It is an industry term for the broad set of activities supported by this multi-module application softwaresystem, in a way that helps a manufacturer (or other business) manage the important parts of its business operations, including product planning, parts purchasing, maintaining inventories, interacting with suppliers, providing customer service, and tracking orders.
